Madison County, Arkansas · your tax bill

Your tax bill, explained

Any home in Madison County: pick your city (or “outside any city”) and school district below. Rates are the 2025 millage the state certifies for taxes collected in 2026. Enter your own assessed value to see where every dollar of your property tax goes — and how it compares with each government’s “no-raise” rate. Updated 2026-10-06.

$870 a year — about $73 a month

On a market value of $150,000 — taxed on 20% of it, $30,000, as a homestead, in Huntsville · Huntsville #1 schools (49 mills). Taxes levied: $1,470, less the $600 homestead credit. An estimate from published rates — your own tax notice is the final word.

Arkansas taxes a home on 20% of its market value. Every homestead gets up to a $600 credit off the bill (Amendment 79); the state repays the local governments for it, so they still receive the full amount shown below.

Of every $100 you pay

Huntsville School District$73.47 · $1,080 a year
Madison County$18.37 · $270 a year
City of Huntsville$8.16 · $120 a year

Where it ends up — every government’s share, by what it pays for

Running the schools$51.02 · $750
Paying off bonds (debt)$22.45 · $330
County services$18.37 · $270
City services$8.16 · $120

Each government’s share is split by the mills it levies: the school district’s operating mills versus its bond (debt) mills, as the state lists them. City and county taxes are one slice each; the county’s spending is on the money trail.

Why there’s no “no-raise” rate here — Arkansas works differently

Florida and Texas publish a yearly “no-raise” rate. Arkansas doesn’t: its rates are set in mills, and after a countywide reassessment Amendment 59 rolls millage back so the reassessment alone doesn’t raise more money. School millage changes need a vote of the district’s voters at the school election — so the biggest lever on most Arkansas bills is a school election that usually draws far fewer voters than November.

County and city millage is levied by the quorum court and city council each fall; school millage is set by the district’s voters at the school election. Meetings are on the calendar.
